Description: In this course, we examine visual culture history of two countries, Argentina and Brazil, from the late nineteenth to the early twenty-first century. The course examines in detail the political economy, social habits and cultural practices surrounding visual media in each of these two countries. It also introduces basic methodological approaches to the study of the visual and asks students to examine primary documents to explore new ideas and techniques of history research. Argentina and Brazil are countries of large geographical expansion and diverse and multi-cultural populations.
